The Engineering Council is a longstanding supporter of professional registration for technicians and this is reflected in its Engineering Technician (EngTech) and ICT Technician (ICTTech) qualifications. It therefore welcomed the recognition by the previous government, in its Skills for Growth White Paper published in November 2009, of the value of professional registration schemes for technicians, and the intention to try to extend these to other sectors. Subsequently the Engineering Council played an active part in the working group led by Lord Sainsbury to develop proposals for a Technician Council and in the Technician Council initial activities.
A second phase of the Technician Council has now been launched - further information is available from the Technician Council website.
The Engineering Council is pleased to be represented on the Technician Council and actively supports its work.
