About EAB
The Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB) was formed in January
2006 by the merger of the Degree Accreditation Board for Chartered
Engineers (DABCE) and the Joint Accreditation Board (JAB). All 21
of the Professional Engineering Institutions
that are licensed by the Engineering Council to accredit
academic programmes are members of EAB, and Engineering Council
provides its secretariat.
EAB combines the roles of DABCE and JAB, facilitating
accreditation visits to look at programmes for both Chartered and
Incorporated Engineer status. Those HEIs opting for an EAB visit
have one point of contact through the Secretariat, receive a single
visit to assess their various disciplines or programmes and
complete only one set of submission documents. The HEI will receive
one visit report.
Within the HEI community there is already an awareness of the
benefits of independent professional accreditation of engineering
courses. Undertaking an Engineering Council accredited degree has
appeal for many students as it puts them on the path to eventual
registration as Chartered
Engineer or Incorporated
Engineer.
There are currently over 4000 courses on the Engineering
Council Accredited Courses Database. EAB aims to improve
educational standards further by disseminating good practice and
offering a consistency of approach, to the benefit of both the
engineering education system and the engineering profession.
As well as carrying out joint accreditation visits, EAB meets
four times a year to discuss accreditation-related issues. An
annual report detailing the previous year's activities is
available.
